Peer Tutoring Program

Responsibilities

Tutor Job Description
The tutor is a student who is primarily responsible for tutoring academic subjects according to their ability and experience. Responsibilities are to ensure that their tutees are contacted and a tutoring schedule is in place for the semester.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  1. The tutor must be in good academic standings at MSU.
  2. The tutor must have a good understanding of the subject tutored.
  3. The tutor must be available to work evenings and weekends.
  4. The tutor must uphold a level of personal conduct appropriate to the responsibilities of the job.
  5. The tutor must abide by all University policies, as well as state and federal laws.
  6. The tutor must attend all the staff meetings.

Compensation:
The tutor will receive the current minimum wage.

Responsibilities:

  1. Contact the tutee and set up a tutoring schedule.
  2. Attend staff meetings.
  3. Complete paperwork and submit it to the Disability Coordinator no later than the ?????.
    1. Complete tutor logs and hand in to Disability Coordinator.
    2. In order to be paid the following materials must be submitted:
      • "Hard Cash" pink form. If you are work study, your form will be gold.
      • Time cards.
      • Contact logs with your signature.
  4. Administer all MSU tutoring policies.
    1. Represent MSU and CC EPIC by presenting a professional image tot eh students and the public at all times.
    2. Report student suggestions or problems to the Disability Coordinator.
  5. Sensitivity to Student Needs.
    1. Need for confidentiality in relationship to student needs and information.
    2. Need for respect, patience, understanding, common sense, etc. in establishing effective working relationships.
  6. Discipline.
    1. Reinforce all tutoring policy rules and regulations.
    2. Provide rationale concerning tutorial and procedures to all tutees.
    3. Address immediately individuals violating rules and record in the tutor log.
  7. Evaluation.
    1. The Disability Coordinator will review the tutors performance by using tutor evaluation forms and job performance.
  8. Termination.
    1. Termination of the tutor’s position will occur if tutor policies or job description is not followed.
    2. In the event that termination is necessary, the tutor will have the right to appeal. An appeal should be addressed to the Disabilities Coordinator within five workings days of the written notification of termination.
  9. Other.
    1. Exhibit patience, understand, common sense, etc. in establishing working relationships with students and the project staff.

I realize that if my performance is judged by the Disabilities Coordinator to be unsatisfactory or if the expectations of the job description are not met, those deficiencies will be brought to my attention both verbally and in written form.

I understand that in the event of termination, I would have the right to appeal and receive a hearing upon request. An appeal should be directed to the Disabilities Coordinator within five working days of written notification of termination.
