Welcome to the Minot State University PBL Website

Minot State University PBL Members
Letter from President Carrie Welnel

Welcome Minot State University PBL Members and all Visitors:

The theme for our chapter this year is "Soar to New Heights."  Throughout this year the elected officers will try to involve themselves more with the organization and its members to bring the PBL concept alive here in Minot, North Dakota. We have a long history of achievement. We will improve this fantastic history with the following programs.

Our first goal will be membership. This year we are working to be actively involved in the recruitment process. Our goal is to recruit will-motivated members, from each discipline on the campus that can merge with the objectives of PBL. I would like an increase of at least 10 percent, from last year. Some of the activities we have planned are:
bullet A membership drive week
bullet Lectures during freshmen week
bullet Classroom participation/ lectures
bullet Advertisement
bullet Spring Open House

We have implemented four community service projects this year, and plan on working on at least two more, some of the firm projects we have done or plan to do include:
bullet Minot State University Homecoming Parade
bullet Norsk Høstfest - answering the phones
bullet Sertoma Christmas at the Park
bullet March Of Dimes' event
bullet FBLA - enforcing dress code at their Spring Conference

Our organization did not do many fundraisers last year, and left our treasury empty. We started the year off with a goal of at least one fundraiser per month to help with SCL expenses. We look forward to going even stronger in the spring when membership picks up. Some fundraisers are:
bullet Minot Fall Festival - cookie sale where children decorated their own cookie with frosting.
bullet Hosted a meal to Senior Citizens during Høstfest week.
bullet Schwanns Pizza Sales - one will be done on the MSU campus and another will be done at a local business.
bullet Tupperware Sales
bullet M&S Concessions - one during State Wrestling and another during Basketball Tournaments
bullet Chili Sale - at local business
bullet Graduation Rose Sale

We want to have workshops that students can use and be a benefit to each other. Fellow students should give most of these workshops. This would have a duo purpose. It will teach those students who needs the training and it would give a student a chance to get experience from the teaching sessions. We could also ask faculty members to bring in an outside professional to teach some workshops. We are hoping this year PBL can continue to grow in leadership skills and develop out of this organization several people who will be ready to take on the business world in a positive and productive way!

Good Luck!

MSU PBL Chapter President
