Choose a level of participation:

  • Professional Development (no credits, no cost to you)
  • Graduate Credits for Non-Degree participant (6 graduate credits) NPWP generally covers 60-80% of the tuition cost.
  • M.Ed. Degree Credits (6 graduate credits count toward the 31 credits for an MSU M.Ed. degree)

The cost to you is defrayed through state and federal funding received by NPWP and designated for the development of teachers. Again, both the Summer and Advanced Institutes offers several different ways to defray your expenses.

  • Professional Development, no credits and no cost to you
    • NPWP online Application is required for admission to the program
  • Graduate Non-Degree, earn 6 graduate credits (credits to be used for promotion or for a graduate program other than MSU. NPWP covers up to 70% of the tuition cost and all on-campus housing during the institute.
    • NPWP online Application is required for admission to the program
    • Application must also be made to MSU Graduate Program Non-degree for credit which will require an application fee and a transcript of your highest degree
  • Concentration in English, 6 graduate credits that apply to the MSU Master of Education Degree Concentration in English. NPWP will cover up to 70% of tuition that is not covered by other financial aid or funding sources for participation in the Summer Institute.
    • NPWP online Application is required for admission to the program
    • Application must also be made to MSU Graduate Program for an M.Ed. with all supporting documents required by the graduate admissions process.

Institute Information:
The foundation of the institutes is a collaborative learning experience, which encourages a very social atmosphere. Both the summer and advanced institutes emphasize new compositional strategies and pedagogical approaches that can be adapted to the K-12 classroom, including

  • Writing exercises with new and exciting writing projects 
  • Book and article discussion on writing and reading pedagogy
  • Teaching demonstrations and discussion leading
  • Opportunity for feedback on writing lesson and curriculum development
