24-hour play festival set for Sept. 19 & 20 at MSU

In 1995, the 24-Hour Company was created in New York, when Tina Fallon, of Crux Productions, developed the first festival as a one-time way to have fun with fellow thespians. The tradition still continues today. This year the event at Minot State University is on Sept. 19 and 20. The performance will be at Aleshire Theatre, Harnett Hall, with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The 24-hour plays are a string of short plays written, rehearsed and performed in 24 hours. The plays require a good deal of planning and organization, but most importantly, energetic people who are creative and passionate about theater.

"It is a great way for new people to plunge into the department without making a six-week rehearsal commitment," said Peg Morris, producer of the 24-Hour Plays at MSU. "The festival is not restricted to potential theater majors, anyone can participate."

The participants will meet and introduce themselves at Aleshire Theater at 7 p.m., and then at 9 p.m., the writers start their scripts, which are due by 6 a.m. on Sept. 20. That morning, production meetings start at 6 a.m. The directors will arrive at 7 a.m., followed by the actors at 8 a.m. Rehearsal begins after all directors have chosen their plays and actors have received their roles. Lunch and supper for all participants is available, complimentary of Campus Players, Minot State Theater Club. The performance of the shows is at 7:30 that same evening.

Acting and technical positions are open to high school students, and faculty members are invited to partake in all positions. Please call or e-mail Peg Morris at 701-661-0136 or peggy.morris@my.minotstateu.edu to sign-up for the festival or if you have questions or concerns about the event. The tickets for the play are $3.
