Rebecca Petrik is an instructor in the Music Division at Minot State University where her focus is Music Education and Voice. She holds a Masters Degree in Music Education from St.Thomas University, St. Paul, MN, a Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University, and Orff Certification from Hamline University, St. Paul, MN. She taught preschool through high school public and parochial music for 29 years during which time she served as NW General Music Representative on the Board of NDMENC and as a North Dakota Teacher Mentor.

Rebecca’s professional mission is 1) to study, practice, and transform the elusive process we call "teaching and learning" and 2) to support people in developing their innate musical abilities - specifically the voice. She is presently widening the scope of this mission to include the mentoring of future teachers.

Professional Involvement in Music Education includes the following:

  • Master’s Thesis explored brain studies and the developing child voice. Leon Thurman of the Voice Care Network was thesis advisor.
  • Guest clinician for numerous NDACDA Children’s Choirs, "All-City" choir in Bismarck, and the Woman’s Choir at Minot State’s Northwest Music Festival.
  • Co-founder and director Western Plains Junior Chorus in Minot, North Dakota - 9 years.
  • Present director of Western Plains Children’s Chorus in Minot, ND
  • International Music Camp voice faculty since 2004.
  • Co-founder of a private integrated-arts program called "KinderSong" in Minot, ND.
  • Guest clinician for several Early Childhood seminars; "Integrating music into Early Childhood".
  • Guest clinician for NDMENC teacher inservice; "Creativity in the Classroom".
  • Adjudicator for Vocal Solos and Ensembles at ND Regional and State Competitions.
  • Awarded the Golden Apple Award by students at Mary Stark Elementary School.
  • Adjunct Faculty at University of Mary - Integrating the Arts into the Classroom.
